Deaf Cruise Hawaii
June 27 - July 4, 2009

Some of us flew into Honolulu a few days prior to the cruise. Thus we had the chance to tour the island of Oahu and join the Pearl Harbor tour prior to the cruise. We embarked the Pride of America on June 27th.

Our first port of call was Kahulului at Maui where we stayed over night. A scenic journey took us to the dormant volcano Haleakala. It is the highest point on Maui. Haleakala Volcano

We started the morning with a visit to the Maui Ocean Center where we experience the Hawaiian underwater world. Then we toured the Tropical Plantation via tram followed by a delicious lunch. The afternoon was reserved for a trip to the beautiful gorge on the Valley Island, the 'Iao Valley.
Our next port of call was Hilo where we drove to the Volcanoes National Park. The park has the most active volcano in Hawaii. We visited the Hawaii Volcano Observatory and Jaggar Museum. A special experience was the walk through an extinct lava tube. The evening was filled with a lot of fun during our game night. Game Night

Pakrer Ranch
Parker Ranch
Our ship anchored in Kona at the island of Hawaii. After a bus ride along the coast line and through Kona, we arrived at the 150,000-acre Parker Ranch. It is Hawaii's oldest and largest ranch. At the Parker Family Estate we heard about the amazing six-generation history of the ranch.
Nawiliwili at Kaui was our port for the next two days. Kauai is known as the "Garden Isle". We were very impressed by the 2,857-foot-deep Waimea Canyon with its beautiful shades of color. Later, a riverboat took us on the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto. The evening was scheduled for "story telling time". Waimea Canyon

After a scenic ride and a stop in Poipu, we arrived at Allerton Botanical Gardens. There we could adore nature's beauty. This paradise was once a private estate. "Outdoor rooms", fountains, pools and sculptures invite the visitor to relax.
